JH Phrydas
Bio

Hello, my name is Jason Phrydas, and I am a queer poet, nonfiction writer, and ghostwriter. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, I studied literature and theory with Lyn Hejinian at UC Berkeley and writing and poetics with Bhanu Kapil at Naropa University. I have published numerous essays on and offline, including in Entropy, Fact-Simile, Aufgabe, and Los Angeles Review of Books. My publications include Levitations (Timeless, Infinite Light / Nightboat Books, 2015), Empire in Shade (Essay Press, 2017), and Imperial Physique (Punctum Books, 2019).

Over the past decade, I have worked as a teacher, copywriter, managing editor, and content producer for universities, poetry magazines, startups, and nonprofits. My interests lie in interview-based research, queer world-building, and long-form storytelling. Most recently, I wrote a biography of a queer underground artist in San Francisco and ghostwrote a rags-to-riches memoir of a Punjabi businessman in Dallas. My work has been supported by Sewanee Writers' Conference (2022), Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Science (2023), and Monson Arts (2024).

I am currently working on an anti-memoir on men, love, and God. I split time between Echo Park, LA and Greenpoint, BK.
